With the looming threat of economic crisis and the skyrocketing prices of goods and services, being stingy and critical of expenditure of money is the pragmatic way to go. The budget of a typical household is usually allotted for the essentials such as food, gas, electricity and health insurance. However, it may seem that your finances are staying afloat and working for you but wait until somebody gets sick. The budget and the money you saved will quickly go down the drain. Frequently, people associated with healthy living with additional expenses. Undeniably, there is a premium for produce that is not grown on a large scale setup and uses wholesome raw materials. Yes, it is expensive but look at it as an investment. People at times are not clear about their priorities. It is common to see individuals spend thousands on branded apparels but unwilling to pay extra money for healthier options.  Experts believe that with a few creativity and tips at your sleeve, anybody can choose the healthier choices and save additional dollars.

Go For Locally Grown Produce.

Look for farmers in your area that follow organic farming practices but opted not to become certified organic due to the expenses and red tape involved in securing such recognition. You can get the organic fruits and vegetables from these farmers approximately half the price of what certified organic produce charge.

Watch out for price off on free-range and naturally-raised meats. It is best to buy them first and work around the meal plans and recipes based on these proteins.

Ideally, going all organic on fruits and vegetables is the best way to go, but the price can be hefty and impractical for many.

Be choosy on what produce needs to be bought in an organic method of farming. For instance, produce a protective layer that is thrown away or peeled off such as banana, watermelon, and onion can be purchased either as organic or not. Also, fruits like blueberries and kiwis are not heavily sprayed so buying them organic might not be necessary.

Avoid Eating Out

An average restaurant meal per person is about 40.78 dollars in New York while home cooking can cost as little as 7 dollars for two to four people.  It is alright to splurge on good food now and then but don’t spend all your money restaurant hopping on the most instagramable food.

Set Up A Home Gym

A survey around your neighborhood for gym cast-offs or check local websites for any kind buys on gym machines and pieces of equipment – if not, improvised. Use your water bottles as dumbbells. Utilize your body weight to increase strength.  Also, visit your local parks and find creative ways to have fun and work out with those monkey bars.

Giving up smoking, limiting the intake of alcohol and achieving your ideal weight are just some of the healthy habits that health insurers desire to save you money and them as well. In general, insurance charges higher for those who have unhealthy habits. Also, inquire if they offer discounted gym members, free nutrition consultations or rewards when you reach your health goals.
